Why can’t a rental EV cross to Nusa Penida?
Four practical reasons, none of them negotiable:
- Tourist fast boats from Sanur carry passengers and luggage only — there is no vehicle deck to drive onto.
- Local vehicle barges exist for the island’s own logistics, but rental agreements — ours included — keep the car on the Bali mainland, so cover and roadside support stop at the shoreline.
- Penida’s inland roads are steep, narrow and badly broken in places; they punish low-clearance city EVs.
- Do not count on charging there: Bali’s public network is built around the mainland, and no station on Nusa Penida appears in the late-2025 listings we rely on.
